Frederique Constant Earns Two GPHG 2026 Nominations for the Classic Worldtimer Manufacture and Classics Moneta Handwinding

Frederique Constant has earned two places among the 84 nominated timepieces for the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) 2026. The brand's Classic Worldtimer Manufacture is in the Petite Aiguille category, while the Classics Moneta Handwinding competes in the Challenge category.

The two nominations stand out for the contrast between the watches. The Classic Worldtimer Manufacture brings Frederique Constant's in-house movement development and world-time complication into the Petite Aiguille category, while the Classics Moneta Handwinding takes the brand's coin-inspired design into mechanical watchmaking in the Challenge category.

What is the GPHG?

The Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) is an annual awards program that brings together watch brands, collectors, journalists, retailers, and other figures from the international watch industry to recognize notable contemporary watch creations. Its importance comes from the breadth of its selection and the way the winners are determined: watches from established manufacturers and independent brands compete across multiple categories, with the GPHG Academy and Jury both involved in the selection process.

Watches are evaluated through a structured selection and voting process involving the GPHG Academy and Jury, with creations competing across categories that reflect different areas of contemporary watchmaking. The program recognizes everything from technical complications and artistic craftsmanship to watches positioned at more accessible price points.

For 2026, the Academy narrowed 320 watches from 194 brands down to 84 nominated timepieces across 14 categories. Frederique Constant has two of those 84 places.

Why a GPHG Nomination Matters

A GPHG nomination reflects a broader industry selection process. The Academy comprises more than 1,000 members from the international watch community, while a 24-member Jury led by Wei Koh evaluates the nominated watches in person. The final results combine the Jury's votes with a second Academy ballot.

The competition also puts unlikely neighbors side by side. Watches from established manufacturers and independent makers compete within the same framework, while Petite Aiguille and Challenge use retail-price brackets to define their respective fields. This makes the two categories especially relevant to Frederique Constant, as both assess watches within defined price ranges rather than focusing solely on high-priced complications

Classic Worldtimer Manufacture: Nominated in Petite Aiguille

The Worldtimer has been part of the Frederique Constant line-up since 2012. For 2026, Frederique Constant has substantially reworked the model.

Key details:

  • Case: A new 40 mm case.
  • Movement: The new FC-719 Manufacture caliber.
  • Power reserve: 72 hours. In practical terms, that means the watch can keep running through an entire weekend when fully wound.
  • Display: The world-time display remains the defining feature, showing 24 time zones around the dial.
  • Layout: A no-date layout, with functions adjusted through a single crown.

Classics Moneta Handwinding: Nominated in Challenge

If the Worldtimer is about engineering, the Moneta Handwinding is about restraint. The Classics Moneta collection debuted in 2024, initially as a quartz line. The Classics Moneta Handwinding introduces the collection's first mechanical movement, bringing the design into traditional hand-wound watchmaking. It was unveiled at Geneva Watch Days 2026 and is now a GPHG nominee.

Key specifications:

  • Case: A 38.5 mm stainless steel case with a fluted inner bezel inspired by the edge of a coin, which is where the name comes from.
  • Dial: A grained black-to-salmon gradient with Dauphine hands and a small seconds subdial at six o'clock.
  • Movement: The FC-435 hand-wound caliber, based on a La Joux-Perret movement, with a 63-hour power reserve.
  • Edition: Limited to 999 pieces worldwide.

The hand-wound movement also changes how the watch is experienced: the wearer interacts directly with the crown to keep the movement running, rather than relying on an automatic rotor.

Two Watches, Two Sides of Frederique Constant

What makes Frederique Constant's presence at the GPHG 2026 particularly interesting is the contrast between these two nominated watches.

The Worldtimer stands out for its new in-house FC-719 caliber, featuring a 72-hour power reserve and a world-time complication. The Moneta takes a different route, pairing a 38.5 mm case with a hand-wound FC-435 movement, coin-inspired detailing, and a smoked-salmon gradient dial. Where the Worldtimer emphasizes technical functionality for travelers, the Moneta takes a more restrained approach to traditional dress-watch design.

The contrast gives Frederique Constant two distinct positions within the GPHG 2026 field: one centered on a technical complication and in-house movement development, and the other on hand-wound mechanics and distinctive design details.

The GPHG 2026 Final

The GPHG 2026 winners will be announced on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices in Geneva. The ceremony will be livestreamed on gphg.org. Before the ceremony, the nominated watches will also be presented as part of the GPHG's international exhibition tour, including a Geneva stop at the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire from October 29 to November 15. Until the results are in, the Classic Worldtimer Manufacture and Classics Moneta Handwinding remain in the running for their category prizes.
